What is National Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS)?, by VAIDAHI HARSHAD SAMANT

Introduction:

The NSTSS was introduced for children between ages 8 and 12 which are also known as Rashtriya Khel Pratibha Khoj Yojana in Hindi. It aims at identifying the talent and put in place eligible sporting talent across the nation and to refer them to be put under proper guidance and coaching for enhancing their sporting skills and aspire in that particular sports. The Vice President of India, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu had launched the portal at New Delhi pertaining to NSTSS on 28th August 2017. The main aim is to find out the young and talented sportsmen around the nation. To fulfil this objective, the talent hunt shall be organized among the students.

Every year, after the students are selected via the National Sports Talent Contest, they will have to register on the portal which can be accessed in multiple languages after which they will be able to access further aid if they qualify for scholarships worth Rs. 5 lakh per year. They will continue to get this amount every year for the next 8 years to pursue their sports’ related dreams. Those students whose age lies between 8 and 12 years and those who are in Class IV to VI – can get the benefits of this scheme. If you have cleared your Physical Efficiency and Sports Aptitude Test (PESAT), then also you are eligible for this scheme. The department dealing with NSTSS is “Yuva Karyakram Khel Mantralaya”.

Advantages of NSTSS:

  • The Government will be able to easily connect with the sports talent of this country through this portal. Each type of sports field requires a different type of care and nurture. Through this portal, the candidates will be able to get the proper aid for their specific field of sports.
  • This will also help uncover the young sportsmen around the country right from the district and school level. Therefore they can enter national sports academies or central sports schools for the same. They will be encouraged to compete at the national and international level and thus, India will generate better sportsmen.
  • Rural sports, an area of sports that truly needed aid, will be able to get the proper focus of the Government through this initiative.
  • If a student is not able to register for this scheme or is disqualified, then that student can get registered again under this scheme after 6 months.
  • Under this scheme, those students who have brought their name to the field by participating in sports and have achieved any achievement, they can be part of the scheme by uploading their bio-video and their information on the online portal.

How to go about availing NSTSS?

  • You have to register on the portal nationalsportstalenthunt.com and then create a profile/account on the portal and only after you do that, you can apply for the scheme.
  • After you have created your profile, you will find that there is an option to choose the NSTSS and apply for that system directly from the portal.
  • Sports Authority of India (SAI) will take things forward and it will assist you with getting the benefits of this scheme.
  • But you cannot apply to SAI before registering and filling up your profil because your sports details are needed to give you the right guidance. Hence, you have to make sure that you have entered the correct details in the above mentioned steps.

  • Since each sport is unique and each criterion differs, you will have to check the details on this web portal distinctively.

How does it work further?

It will take about 1 to 2 months of the time period to process the entire application. This is because the application will very first be verified at the SAI headquarters it will be forwarded to the training centres where it will be up for further inspection. Even parents can apply on behalf of their children. If your children are minors, then you have to register on the portal using your own name and details.

The selection trials take place at the primary training centres. So accordingly one has to choose the primary training centre where does one want to go for your selection trial. But the same shall be confirmed and intimated to the candidate via e-mail after his/her application has been scrutinized by the authorities and only if they are shortlisted for the trials.

The NSTSS provides facilities to talented young boys and girls studying at the primary and/or early secondary stage of education and skilful in sports to develop their talent in the sports of their interest. Overall though NSTSS the entire sports arena may get properly governed and designed as it will be convenient easier for the public authorities to locate such talent and it will also enable such sports aspirant to meet his/her needed professional coaching facilities/equipment as well as centre/academy to better their sporting skills from the beginning and train them professionally and technically in that particular sports and to enable such sporting talents to have a better path ahead in respect of framing their career in the field of sports and aspire with fruitful results towards themselves and the nation.
